The NASCAR season is finally coming to a close after kicking off back in February. As it stands right now the leader is Kyle Busch, but Jeff Burton is not far behind and Dale Earnhardt Jr. are right on his heels. Busch has had a strong showing with 10 Top 5 finishes, by far the most of any driver on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit.
There are still plenty of races until the Chase for the Cup begins in September, with the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard coming up at the end of July and the Food City 250 at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
The close standings are making racing fans excited for the chase though. The Sylvania 300 is just a couple months away and the final race, the Ford 400 at the Homestead-Miami Speedway is coming in November.
Drivers on the fringe like Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth still have to time to take it to another gear and get in place for a strong run at the end of the season.

Drivers like Kevin Harwick, David Ragan, and Brian Vickers still have a shot at joining the NASCAR superstar for the Chase for the Cup at the end of the season. There are still plenty of races between now and September.
Kyle Busch could easily drop out of the top spot to Jeff Burton, Carl Edwards, or Jeff Gordon. With Pennsylvania 500 and the Pepsi 400 the slim margins keeping Busch on top could easily disappear. Every race, from the Kansas 500 to the Pep Boys Auto 500 will be in contention once the season winds down.
Legendary tracks like Talladega Super Speedway and Lowe’s Motor Speedway will surely see there share of competition and controversy as this race is as close as ever.
Of course people forget that IRL is juts starting to wind down and Danica Patrick continues to make waves as she proves that her gender matters very little as she blows by the competition. The IRL schedule will come to an end in Chicago after an exciting season that has taken all summer.
OLS
With Yates racing making a late comeback behind David Gilliland’s second place finish in Sonoma and Carl Edwards earning his stripes in commercials and a trip to victory lane in Milwaukee, NASCAR is in the midst of one of its most exciting seasons in recent memory.
The fans have a long way to go before they start making their picks for the Chase for the Cup. They still have to wait to see what happens at Auto Club Speedway, Michigan International Speedway and Pocono Raceway amongst other challenging tracks.
Racing fans know that NASCAR is much more than four left turns and know that the race at the top is getting clogged with Kyle Busch letting everyone from Jeff Burton to Carl Edwards to Jeff Gordon catch up.
The posturing will be decided in September when the top racers complete the final ten races beginning with New Hampshire International Speedway and ending at the Homestead-Miami Speedway.
NASCAR is sure to end on a strong note long after the IRL season has come to a close.
